Asker Big 1717GA is a box-shaped outdoor wall light with a front of hot-dip galvanised steel. The zinc coating has a natural, uneven pattern, so each fitting looks slightly different. Light leaves only through the underside, via a clear cover of textured polycarbonate, and the source is an ordinary E27 LED bulb, bought separately.

Size and wall mounting

According to the manufacturer's drawing, the fitting is 300 mm wide and 120 mm tall, and it projects 120 mm from the wall. Compare those figures with the space beside the door, on a fence pillar or between the windows of the façade. The body behind the front is powder-coated cast aluminium, and the whole fitting weighs 2.4 kg.

It is fixed through an intermediate plate with two 5 × 10 mm adjustment slots 45 mm apart, or directly through two ø5 mm holes 68 mm apart — the slots let you level the fitting after drilling. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and a further fitting can be looped through with up to 3 × 1.5 mm². The supply cable enters in a round sheath of 7–10.5 mm diameter. This is a Class I fitting, so it needs a protective earth conductor.

Bulb and light

The fitting takes an E27 LED bulb of A55–A60 shape rated up to 9 W. The bulb is not included, but you replace it yourself without a service call. As a suitable source the manufacturer names an LED bulb of 806 lm / 8.5 W / 2700 K — that brightness matches an old 60 W incandescent, and 2700 K is warm, slightly yellow light. Colour and brightness therefore come from the bulb you choose; for dimming you need a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.

The light is diffused and directed downwards, and the ULOR is 0 %, so nothing shines into the sky. The fitting draws a bright pool on the wall beneath it and lights the entrance or the path by the house.

Where it fits

IP44 protects against splashing water, the impact rating is IK08, and the −20 to +45 °C operating range covers winter. The manufacturer designed it for lighting walls, façades and other architectural features — on a house, a balcony or a fence, or outside a hotel or restaurant. The plain, unornamented box and raw zinc suit modern and minimalist architecture.
