Outdoor Wall Light NORLYS Boden 862BL black E27 clear diffuser

Boden 862BL is a rectangular outdoor wall light in black (RAL 9005): a black base in powder-coated cast aluminium with a clear, UV-stabilised polycarbonate diffuser in front of it, crossed by three horizontal slats. The bulb shows through the clear diffuser, so its shape becomes part of the look. The light has an E27 socket, and the bulb is not included.

Size and installation

The fitting is 31 cm high and 16 cm wide and projects 10.5 cm from the wall – dimensions to compare with the free strip of wall beside the door or between windows. It is fixed with two screws through ø4.5 mm holes spaced 90 × 160 mm. It weighs 1.55 kg, and 1.72 kg in its 35.5 × 17 × 12 cm carton.

The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and up to 3 × 1.5 mm² for loop-through wiring, so several lights run from one supply line. The cable gland takes a round cable of ø7–10.5 mm. The fitting is protection class I and must be connected to a protective earth; installation is for a qualified electrician, following the instructions supplied with it.

Light source

The light takes an E27 LED bulb in an A55–A60 shape, up to 9 W, which the user replaces. You choose the colour and brightness yourself – at an entrance about 800 lm, the output of an old 60 W bulb, is usually enough. To order, Norlys supplies the fitting with a Philips Master LEDbulb 806 lm / 8.5 W / 2700 K, which is dimmable; dimming depends on the bulb and the dimmer, as the fitting itself has no control gear.

The diffuser is clear and the light unshielded, so it spreads sideways, up and down along the wall. A filament bulb suits a clear diffuser well, as its filament stays visible.

Durability and intended use

IP54 protects against dust and water splashed from any direction, so the light can hang on a façade exposed to rain. It works from −20 to +45 °C. Norlys offers spare parts: the diffuser as service kit 06860004 and the gasket 08550009.

The plain rectangular form with horizontal slats suits contemporary, Scandinavian-style architecture. Boden fits a façade by the entrance as well as hotel and restaurant exteriors. The model is made in black and in hot-dip galvanised steel, with other colours to order.
