The NEW TRIA 1 SET is a ceiling recessed downlight with a square white bezel of 9 x 9 cm and a height of 3.5 cm. A round COB LED module sits inside the bezel and tilts within it, so the beam can be aimed away from the vertical.

The opening it needs

The cut-out is round, 7.7 cm across, and the fitting needs 4 cm of depth behind the ceiling plane. That second figure is the one to set against the space left above your suspended ceiling — 4 cm is the fitting alone, with no allowance for the cable.

The 9 cm square bezel covers the round hole with about 6 mm of overlap on each side, so a small inaccuracy in the cut stays hidden underneath it. Clip springs hold the fitting: it pushes into the finished opening with no further brackets.

The light it gives

The module puts out 700 lm at 3000 K — warm white with a yellowish cast, the same colour family an incandescent bulb works in. The light leaves in a 38 degree cone rather than spreading across the room: one fitting lays down a distinct circle, so even light in a room is planned with several of them.

Colour rendering is Ra 80. That is the level accepted for general lighting; where colour has to be judged accurately — choosing clothes, or at a workbench — fittings with Ra 90 and above are the ones to look for.

What is in the set and what running it involves

An LED driver is part of the set, so no separate control gear has to be bought — the fitting connects to the 230 V mains and the driver feeds the module 350 mA. It is a class II fitting, so no protective earth conductor is required.

The light source is built in: there is no socket and no lamp to replace, and the manufacturer states 40,000 h against the L70B50 criterion. IP20 rules out wet zones — the fitting is intended for dry interiors, across an ambient range of -20 to 40 degrees Celsius.
