NUMINOS XS is a recessed ceiling downlight with a round 6.5 cm trim. The trim is black and the reflector visible inside it is chrome-plated. The body is aluminium, and a polycarbonate lens covers the LED.
The cut-out, and the space needed above the ceiling
The mounting hole is round and 5.5 cm across, and the 6.5 cm trim covers its edge. The body is 4.5 cm tall, but SLV specifies an installation depth of 11 cm — that much clear space has to exist above the ceiling board before the hole is cut.
The fitting weighs 114 g and holds in the opening on spring clips. The connection lead is 10 cm long, so the driver has to sit right beside the hole.
How much light it gives, and what kind
The built-in LED draws 7 W and delivers 700 lm — roughly what an old 60 W bulb gave, but gathered into a 40° beam. That is directional light: it covers a patch of floor or worktop below the fitting, so lighting a room evenly takes several units in a row or a grid.
3000 K is warm white — warmer than daylight, but without a pronounced yellow cast. Ra 90 means colours read almost as they do in daylight, and UGR ≤ 22 describes glare: the LED sits deep in the reflector and does not shine straight into the eye. SLV states the light source may be replaced only by a qualified professional; it is rated for 50 000 hours.
The driver is bought separately
The fitting works in protection class III and runs on 200 mA direct current, so it is not wired to 230 V directly. It needs an LED driver — SLV lists one among the accessories; it does not come with the luminaire and has to be budgeted for.
The manufacturer states IP20/IP44, impact resistance IK02 (0.2 joule) and operation up to an ambient 40 °C. This version is not DALI-controlled, so dimming depends on the driver chosen; the warranty runs 5 years.
Where a fitting like this works
The narrow beam and the 6.5 cm trim suit rows — above a kitchen worktop, along a hall or corridor, or on chosen spots in a living room. IP44 also allows it in a bathroom, outside the zone of direct water jets.
The form is minimalist and modern: a flat ring with no ornament, so once installed only the black rim and its chrome interior show.
