SALA is an open bookcase 178 cm tall, 120 cm wide and only 40 cm deep, in a warm walnut tone. The structure is built from six levels of shelves with rounded edges, carried on slim cylindrical posts. Four closed, likewise rounded panels are placed asymmetrically between the shelves — once at the left edge, once at the right — so the rhythm of the piece is never monotonous and part of what it holds stays screened from view.
Open on both sides
The bookcase has no back. That is not an omission but a design decision: the piece looks the same from every side and can stand not only against a wall but also as a divider splitting a room — separating a seating area from the dining part of an open-plan space, for instance. Light passes straight through the structure, so the division darkens neither half of the room.
Proportions
Forty centimetres of depth is little for a piece of this height — the bookcase takes a minimum of floor area and still holds standard-format books, box files and larger decorative objects. The base is continuous and wide, which at a mass of about 60 kg gives it stability. With a piece this tall and narrow, especially in a home with small children, additional anchoring to the wall is still worth considering.
Finish
The whole is kept in a single dark walnut tone with visible grain. The rounded edges of shelves and panels take weight out of the structure — furniture of this height can dominate a room, and here the soft lines work the other way.
