V-TAC VT-6172 Octagon is an LED panel for suspended ceilings in a white aluminium and polycarbonate frame. Instead of a uniformly lit sheet it has a geometric pattern: a square frame and an octagon inscribed in it are what light up.
Installation and dimensions
The panel measures 595 × 595 mm and fits a standard 600 × 600 mm grid-ceiling bay, replacing one tile. It is 15 mm thick and weighs 1.4 kg. It is powered by two external LIFUD drivers connected with quick connectors.
The IP20 rating means the panel is for dry rooms only, and its IK02 impact rating means it is not meant for places where a ball or a ladder could strike it.
How much light it gives
Drawing 72 W, the panel delivers 7200 lm spread over a 110° angle. That is main-lighting level for an office, meeting room, shop or corridor. At 6500 K the light is a cold, slightly bluish white, close to daylight under an overcast sky.
The colour rendering index is Ra 80, the value treated as the minimum for office workstations. According to the EU product sheet the R9 value is close to zero, so reds and pinks look muted under this light. The manufacturer declares colour consistency at 6 MacAdam steps — two panels side by side may differ slightly in their shade of white.
Light source and running
The LEDs are built in and cannot be replaced. The manufacturer quotes a service life of 30,000 hours, about 27 years at three hours a day, and more than 15,000 switching cycles. The panel reaches full brightness instantly but is not dimmable. Its energy efficiency class is F.
