Whispering Tiffany table lamp - 2 light sources - Valiant bronze Elstead

Whispering is a Tiffany-style table lamp by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its conical shade of creamy white art glass is divided by dark, branching lines that form twigs, with agate stones set along them. The same branch motif returns in the base, finished in Valiant Bronze.

An art glass shade with natural agates

The agates on the shade are natural stones. The manufacturer selects each one by hand for quality and size, cuts it in half, tumbles it for 72 hours and finally polishes it by hand to a deep sheen. As a result no two lamps are identical: the glass tone and the placement of the stones may differ slightly from the photos, which the manufacturer states openly.

The base is made of polyresin and steel. It takes the form of a trunk that splits into several limbs at the bottom, and a metal leaf-shaped finial closes the top of the shade.

Dimensions and space on the surface

The lamp is 62.9 cm tall and the shade measures 43.2 cm across. Compare that width with the top of the chest of drawers, console or bedside table it will stand on — the shade should not overhang the edge of the furniture. The lamp weighs 4.34 kg and is intended for indoor use only.

Bulbs and switching

The lamp has two E27 lampholders, each taking a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included, so you need to buy two. The manufacturer describes the lamp as compatible with dimmable bulbs, which means dimming requires dimmable bulbs and a suitable dimmer.

Two pull chains with ball ends hang below the shade and switch the lamp on and off. The creamy white glass is translucent, so light passes through the whole shade rather than only downwards. The lamp is Class I, so it plugs into a socket with an earth contact.

The lamp is intended for the living room, bedroom and office. Its Tiffany style shows in the glass divided into segments by dark lines and in the natural plant motif that links the shade to the base.
