Isla Table Lamp with Cranberry Pink Shade - 1 Light - White / Aged Brass Elstead

Isla is a table lamp with a white glazed ceramic base in a double-gourd shape and a tapered drum shade in faux silk, coloured Cranberry Pink, a deep raspberry pink. The metalwork is finished in Aged Brass: a wide ring at the foot, a collar under the lampholder and a finial on top of the shade.

Size and where it fits

The lamp stands 64 cm tall and the shade is 36 cm across (14 inches). The shade is much wider than the base, so compare those 36 cm with the depth of the chest of drawers, console or bedside table it will stand on, and with the distance to the wall. It weighs 5.1 kg, which matters if you plan to put it on a light shelf.

The lamp runs from a wall socket through a cable with a plug, so there is nothing to install and no electrician is needed. It is a Class I appliance, which means the plug goes into an earthed socket.

Light source and dimming

There is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself; for a table lamp most people pick warm light at 2700–3000 K, close to a traditional incandescent bulb.

The lamp has no dimmer of its own. The manufacturer states that it works with dimmable smart bulbs, so brightness is set through the bulb itself rather than a switch on the cable. The shade is laminated, which keeps its shape; light passing through the coloured fabric takes on its pink tint, while most of the light leaves through the open top and bottom.

Materials and the Isla range

The base is ceramic, the metal parts are steel with an Aged Brass finish and the shade is faux silk. Isla is Elstead Lighting's own line: the same white and aged brass base is also sold with Okra Green, Ballerina Pink and Bloom Purple shades, and the range includes polished nickel versions too.

The classic gourd-vase form with a drum shade suits places where the lamp is on display: a chest of drawers in the living room, a bedside table in the bedroom or a desk in a home office.
