Alderley is a small Tiffany-style table lamp: a four-sided pyramid shade built from art glass panels sits on a slim steel stem with a stepped square foot. The metal parts carry a Vintage Bronze finish – a dark, aged bronze rather than a flat brown paint.
How big it is and where it fits
The lamp stands 32.3 cm tall, and both shade and base fit within a 13.8 × 13.8 cm square. Compare that with the free space on your bedside table, chest of drawers or shelf – the lamp needs little more surface than its own foot.
It runs from a wall socket via a plug and switches on with an inline switch on the cable, so there is no reaching under the shade. The manufacturer intends it for the living room, bedroom, dining room and study.
What light it gives
The lamp has one E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself – a warm 2700 K bulb, slightly yellowish, suits the cream glass panels. There is no built-in dimmer; the manufacturer lists compatibility with dimmable smart bulbs, whose brightness is set from an app.
When lit, the blue panels turn an aqua tone and the clear textured inserts sparkle. The glass colours and diffuses the light, so Alderley works as a mood lamp rather than a reading light.
Construction and series
The body is steel and the shade is assembled from art glass like a stained-glass window. Cream-white panels are crossed by blue and clear inserts in a geometric arrowhead pattern, and the straight parallel lines set Alderley apart from floral Tiffany shades. The manufacturer places the series in the Art Nouveau style and gives the metal details an Art Deco character.
The Alderley series also includes a medium table lamp 35 cm tall and a large one 50.4 cm tall, a wall light and a pendant in the same finish, so several fittings of one pattern can be matched in a single room.
