ABBANO is a table lamp of classic silhouette: a conical shade in cream, edged with a gold band at the lower rim, on a base of brushed brass. 38 cm tall with a 25 cm shade – the proportion typical of a lamp meant for a chest of drawers, a console or a bedside table rather than a desk.
Brushed brass, not polished
That distinction makes the whole difference here. Polished brass acts as a mirror: it reflects light in points and shows every fingerprint. Brushing leaves fine parallel lines on the surface that scatter the reflection – the metal keeps its warm gold tone but does not glare and does not need polishing after every touch. Over time brass naturally darkens, which on this finish reads as patina rather than grime.
The shade and the band
The shade is fabric, in cream – not white. That matters for the result: cream material warms the light passing through it by a fraction, so even a neutral lamp gives a gentler glow in this fitting. A gold tape runs along the lower edge, closing the composition and tying the shade to the brass base in colour.
The conical shape means a two-way distribution: part of the light leaves at the bottom and lights the surface beneath the lamp, part at the top and bounces off the ceiling. The classic profile for reading in an armchair and for lifting a corner of a room.
An E27 socket rated to 15 W
The lampholder is E27 with a 15 W limit, and no lamp is supplied. Fifteen watts is a deliberately low ceiling, matched to the fabric shade – it rules out old 60 W incandescents that would heat the material inside a closed cone, and points straight at LEDs. A 15 W E27 LED delivers around 1500 lumens today, considerably more than the old sixty. You choose the colour: 2700 K brings out the cream of the shade and the brass, 3000 K stays neutral.
