Ashland Bay is an outdoor chandelier by Kichler, supplied by Elstead Lighting: an aluminium ring on five arms with five small lanterns of clear seeded glass hanging beneath it. The Burnished Bronze finish appears in the photos as a warm grey-brown tone with lighter, brushed highlights.
Dimensions and hanging
The chandelier is 66.3 cm in diameter and 50.8 cm tall, and weighs 6.03 kg. It hangs on rigid rods — two 152 mm and two 305 mm rods are included — so the overall drop from the ceiling is set during installation between 62.4 and 147.3 cm. The round canopy is 12.7 cm in diameter. The fitting is Class I and must be connected to an earth conductor.
Lamps and light
The chandelier takes five E27 lamps of up to 60 W each; lamps are not included. The lantern glass is clear, so the lamps stay visible while the bubbles slightly break up their image — the maker recommends Edison-style LED lamps with a visible filament. At 2700 K the light over a terrace table will be warm and slightly yellowish. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: to adjust brightness you need dimmable lamps and a dimmer.
Where to hang it
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the maker intends the chandelier for exterior installation. It suits a covered terrace, a balcony, a gazebo and hotel spaces. The maker describes the collection as traditional with colonial charm, which shows in the lantern form with its fittings and rivets. The Ashland Bay series also includes wall lanterns, a post-top lantern, a small chain lantern and an outdoor flush ceiling light.
