Beaded Bamboo Basket with Lid Black L 20x20x15 cm

The Beaded Basket in size L is a square basket with a lid, 20 cm on each side and 15 cm tall. Its whole outer surface, the walls and the top of the lid alike, is densely covered with small black beads laid in diagonal bands. The lid rests on the body and lifts off without a catch, so the contents go out of sight in one movement.

How big it is and where it fits

The footprint is 20 by 20 cm and square, so the basket needs the same room in both directions. Compare that with the depth of your own shelf, or the free strip on a chest of drawers, before settling on a spot. At 15 cm tall it clears a standard wall shelf and does not hide what stands behind it.

An interior this size takes the small things that otherwise lie loose: jewellery, keys, a remote, coiled cables. The manufacturer makes the same design in the smaller size S as well, so two baskets can stand side by side. The piece weighs 605 g, which even a light shelf carries.

Plaited bamboo under the beads

The body is plaited from bamboo strips, and it shows as soon as the lid comes off: the interior and the underside of the lid are left unbeaded, in bare dark plaiting. A twisted braid of the same fibre runs around the top edge of the body and along the rim of the lid, stiffening the edge exactly where it takes the most handling.

The beads cover the outer faces only, and they are what gives the fine-grained, matt glinting texture. The manufacturer lists the material as bamboo and beads and the country of origin as Indonesia; the form goes back to the Balinese boxes for offerings presented at ceremonies.

Where to keep it and how to clean it

The manufacturer intends this basket for indoor use only. The beadwork is sensitive to moisture, so a place without steam and without contact with water is a condition rather than a suggestion: the worktop beside the sink and the bathroom are out.

The bamboo surface is dusted with a soft, dry cloth. The manufacturer also advises against long spells in direct sunlight. What is supplied is the basket together with its lid.
