BJORK R 16 by Rendl is a round, flat LED recessed downlight in white, 16 cm across and only 2 cm high. Once fitted, all you see in the ceiling is a thin white disc with a matt, light-diffusing face.
Installation and ceiling cut-out
The light is held in the ceiling by two springs whose position can be adjusted, so it fits cut-outs from 6 to 10 cm in diameter. The manufacturer presents it as a replacement for old halogen downlights: it goes into the existing hole without enlarging it, and the 16 cm disc covers the edge of the opening.
It needs 4.5 cm of free space above the ceiling – a figure to compare with the void above your suspended ceiling. The driver is included and connects to the light with a short cable, and the whole unit runs on 230 V. The light weighs 210 g.
What light it gives
The source is a 12 W LED module, integrated into the light and supplied with it – there are no bulbs or separate driver to buy. The module is not swapped like a bulb; the manufacturer quotes a life of 30,000 hours for it.
1200 lm is more than a traditional 60 W bulb gave (about 800 lm), and with several lights spaced across a ceiling it is enough to serve as a room's main lighting. 3000 K is warm white, close to the light of a traditional bulb.
Where it fits
The manufacturer intends BJORK R 16 for living rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hallways and garages, including plasterboard ceilings. The form is modern and plain: a smooth white disc with no decorative trim, which stays visually flush with the ceiling. Its design follows Rendl's LARISA range, so the two can be combined in one room. BJORK R 16 is also available in black.
