RUBEN WHITE is a ceiling fitting with a round white base plate carrying three E27 lampholders. Each sits on a short black knuckle and is angled outwards, and around each bulb sits an open cage of white wire in an angular, many-sided shape. Frame and cages are metal, painted white.

How much room it takes below the ceiling

The maker gives a footprint of 32 × 32 cm and a height of 35 cm. Height here is the amount by which the fitting comes down from the ceiling — worth comparing with the height of the room, particularly if the lamp is to hang over a walkway rather than over a table or a sofa.

The fitting mounts straight to the ceiling, with no cable and no drop. Gross weight is 1.85 kg.

Which bulbs you have to buy

There are three E27 sockets, and the maker gives 60 W as the maximum bulb rating for each. No bulbs are supplied, so three have to be bought separately, and they are what decides the brightness and the colour of the light — for comparison, an old 60 W bulb corresponds to roughly 800 lm.

The cages are open, made of single wires, so the bulb is visible in full and becomes part of how the lamp looks. Light passes out through the wire walls in every direction and draws the shadows of the cage edges on the ceiling; the cage hides nothing, so with an exposed filament the fitting shines straight into the eye.

Build

Both the frame and the cages are metal in white; only the black knuckles at the lampholders stand apart from it. The maker calls the style modern and industrial — the industrial note is exactly the bare wire construction in place of a closed shade.

The lamp is made in Poland and assembled by hand. The maker intends it for the living room, hallway and kitchen, and for restaurant and bar interiors. The RUBEN series also includes pendant versions and other colours.
