CHAIN 158 is a linear pendant 158 cm long with a section of only 10 × 10 cm, made of steel and finished in yellow. It hangs on a black cable from a narrow, likewise yellow canopy measuring 6 × 6 × 26 cm. The manufacturer is the Polish brand Thoro.
A metre and a half is a decision about proportion
The 158 cm length is the main functional property here. Over a table 180–200 cm long, one such bar replaces three separate pendants: the light spreads evenly along the whole top, with no three bright pools and dark gaps between them. Nor is there any spacing to calculate or three holes to drill — the entire fitting hangs from one canopy. The same proportion works over a kitchen island, a long counter and a bench desk.
2355 lm at 4000 K
The fitting draws a maximum of 19.9 W and returns 2355 lm. The 4000 K colour is neutral white — cooler than the usual domestic 3000 K and closer to daylight. That is a task choice rather than a mood one: it renders food and paper accurately, keeps you alert and does not yellow whites. Over a table that doubles as a work or homework surface it serves better than warm light; for a purely restful room the 3000 K version, which Thoro sells separately, would suit better.
The light source is built in
CHAIN has no socket and no bulb to fit — the LED module is integrated and comes with the product. Nothing needs buying separately, and the light emerges as a single continuous line along the whole bar instead of from several points. The consequence is the familiar one: when the diodes reach the end of their life the whole luminaire is replaced. The manufacturer rates it energy class F and covers it with a 5-year warranty.
Installation: 6 kg on one canopy
The lamp weighs 6 kg, and all of that load passes through a canopy with a 6 × 6 cm base. That is a material installation fact: the load is concentrated on a small area, so a concrete ceiling needs expanding anchors matched to the material, and in a suspended ceiling the fixing must reach the structure above rather than the plasterboard itself. Maximum suspension height is 200 cm from the ceiling, and the cable can be shortened to the height required.
Colour as part of the scheme
A yellow body with a yellow canopy and a black cable is a deliberate pairing — the installation element stays visible and completes the form rather than hiding. Thoro makes CHAIN 158 in more than a dozen colours, among them black, white, burgundy, ultramarine, ochre, olive, taupe and mocca, so the same shape can be matched to a restrained interior or used as a strong accent. The IP20 rating places the lamp in dry interiors. Manufacturing takes place in Poland.
