Chicago Medium Outdoor Wall Lantern - 1 light - Textured Black Elstead

Chicago is an outdoor wall lantern from Elstead Lighting's own range, in the medium size of the family. A clear blown-glass shade with air bubbles sits in a cast aluminium body finished in textured black. The lantern hangs beneath a curved, decorative arm that comes off a wall plate, and an ornamental finial closes it at the bottom.

Size and where to mount it

The lantern is 56 cm high and 28 cm wide, and projects 34 cm from the wall. That projection is the figure to compare with the space by the door — an opening door leaf, a frame or a downpipe. It weighs 4.32 kg and is screwed to the wall through its mounting plate.

The fitting is rated IP44, so it is protected against water splashing from any direction and can be used on a facade without a canopy. On the corner of a building it can be mounted with the separately sold corner bracket C-BKT2-BLACK (or C-BKT2-BROWN). It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.

Light source

Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The seeded glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible. The lantern can be dimmed when used with a bulb marked as dimmable and a suitable dimmer.

Style

The manufacturer describes the Chicago family as classic aluminium lanterns in a turn-of-the-century style — hence the profiled top, the scrolled arm and the finial at the base. This form suits a facade with a traditional character, and in the catalogue it is also assigned to hotel and restaurant entrances.
