Cross is a table lamp from Elstead Lighting's own range, with a steel base formed by two crossed arms that make an X. The metal is finished in mirror-bright polished gold, and on top sits a rectangular ivory fabric shade. This version differs from its sibling only in the shade – the other is offered with a navy blue one.
Size and where it fits
The lamp is 67.8 cm tall including the shade. The shade is oblong: 35 cm wide, 17 cm deep and 25 cm high, and the rectangular base is 27 cm wide. The shallow depth means the lamp fits on a narrow console, chest of drawers or shelf – compare these dimensions with the depth of the furniture it will stand on.
Light and shade
The shade is made from polycotton fabric with a white laminate lining. The white lining reflects the bulb's light, which leaves mainly through the open top and bottom of the shade – onto the surface below the lamp and up to the ceiling – while the fabric itself glows softly and evenly.
The lamp has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The manufacturer states that the fitting works with dimmable smart lamps, so brightness is controlled by the bulb itself, for example from an app, rather than by a dimmer in the lamp.
Power and use
The lamp plugs into a socket with no wiring work, and moving it elsewhere needs no electrician. It is a Class I fitting, so it requires an earthed socket.
