Battersea is a round wall mirror 100.5 cm across, in a bronze-finished metal frame, its glass divided by radial bars into a wheel-window pattern.
A window that is not there
The division of the glass is the design, not a decoration on top of it. Radial bars run out from a central round pane, cut by two concentric rings — the drawing of a cartwheel, or of a rose window in a factory hall. The effect is that a wall with no window gets something that reads as one: the light in the room comes back in dozens of separate fields rather than off one flat sheet. Battersea therefore works best opposite a real window or a lamp, where it has something to break up.
Made to be looked at, not looked into
Worth knowing before buying: the bars cross the reflection, so this is not a mirror for checking your hair. It is a decorative object with a mirror's function — for a hallway, over a chest of drawers, above a fireplace, at the end of a corridor that needs optical depth. If a working mirror is what is needed, a plain-glass model serves better; if the point is to widen and brighten a room without hanging a picture, this pattern does exactly that.
Bronze, not brass
The frame has a dark, muted bronze finish with warmer wear along the edges — closer to patina and wrought metal than to the yellow gleam of brass. It sits well with raw timber, brick, dark joinery and black fittings; next to bright golden brass it looks accidental. The frame is 5 cm deep, so the mirror stands clearly off the wall and casts its own shadow, which reinforces the impression of a window reveal.
Hanging: this is not a light object
At 12.65 kg net and over a metre across, Battersea needs anchoring into masonry or into the studs of a partition wall — a single plug in plasterboard will not do. It pays to mark the fixing points before the mirror is carried in, and to plan on two people for the lift. The pattern is symmetrical, so there is no top or bottom; only the centre needs levelling.
