Gallier Table Lamp - 1 light source - Black and Gold Elstead

Gallier is a Flambeau table lamp with a vase-shaped base cast from resin and steel. The body is black, while a gold, irregularly distressed finish covers the collar, the foot, the ball finial and the two handles curled into scrolls. A white tapered fabric drum shade completes it. The lamp is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Size and space on the surface

The lamp stands 63.5 cm tall with a 45.7 cm wide shade and weighs 4.2 kg. It is a large piece, so compare the 45.7 cm with the free space on the chest of drawers, console or side table where it will stand: the shade should not overhang the edge or press against the wall.

Power comes through a cable with a plug, and the lamp is switched on and off with an inline switch on the cable, with no wiring into the installation. It is Class I, so the plug goes into a socket with an earth pin.

Bulb and light

The lamp has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included, so you choose brightness and colour yourself: living rooms and bedrooms usually get warm light of 2700–3000 K. The white fabric shade spreads the light sideways and sends part of it down onto the surface around the base.

The fitting works with dimmable bulbs — to adjust brightness you need such a bulb and a dimmer.

Which interior

Gallier has a classic form: the vase with curled handles and gilding recalls old ceramic urns, and the tapered shade calms the whole. The lamp is for indoor use only and suits a living room, a bedroom and an office or study as extra light on a piece of furniture.
