Kinver 26 is a flat outdoor wall light from Nordlux: a white 26 × 9 cm rectangle that stands just 3.3 cm off the wall. The housing is aluminium and glass, with no visible fixings on the front, and the light leaves through two edges — upwards and downwards.
What light it gives
The fitting has an integrated LED module producing 900 lm, a little more than an old 60 W bulb. A colour temperature of 3000 K is warm white, and Ra 80 is ample for lighting an entrance or a path. Because the light comes out of the top and the bottom, it draws two bright bands on the wall above and below the fitting, and the 120° beam spreads them widely across the facade.
The light source cannot be replaced; Nordlux quotes a lifetime of 25,000 hours, which at a few hours a day means many years of use. The wall light is not dimmable, so it should not be connected to a dimmer.
Where to mount it
Nordlux intends it for the driveway and the main entrance of a house, and it also suits a facade, a balcony or a fence. The IP54 rating means protection against dust and against water splashed from any direction, so it can hang on a wall without a canopy. Nordlux does not, however, intend it for seaside locations, where the air carries salt.
The plain, smooth body with no ornament suits a modern, minimalist facade, whether rendered, concrete or clad in timber.
Installation and connection
This is a Class I fitting: the protective earth conductor is connected to its earth terminal, so installation is a job for an electrician. Nordlux allows parallel connection, so several wall lights along one wall can be supplied by looping the cable from one to the next. Wall screws are not included and need to be chosen to suit the wall. The fitting weighs 0.75 kg.
