Marette 1 Light Wall Light Black / Nickel Elstead

Marette is a single-lamp wall light with a square opal glass shade set on a black steel body with polished nickel inserts. Below the shade the body runs out into a tapering, slightly twisted arm pointing downward. The shade is milky, so the lamp does not show through and the light spreads softly upward and to the sides.

How big it is and how it fixes

The fitting is 41.3 cm high, 12.7 cm wide and stands 14.3 cm off the wall. The rectangular back plate measures 12.7 × 18.5 cm — compare that with the installation box where it will go, because the plate has to cover it. The whole thing weighs 1.28 kg, so the load on the wall is small.

This is a class I fitting, so an earth conductor has to reach the box. It connects straight to a 220–240 V supply.

For a bathroom

The manufacturer intends Marette for interiors including the bathroom, and an IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction. That allows it beside a mirror or over a basin, but not in a zone of direct wetting — not over the bath and not in the shower.

Light and lamp

A 3 W G9 LED lamp is included, giving 300 lm at 3000 K, warm white close to traditional incandescent light. The LEDs are not built in permanently: the G9 socket lets the lamp be changed, but the manufacturer gives 3 W LED as the maximum wattage, so a brighter lamp will not go in.

300 lm is supplementary-lighting brightness — roughly a third of a former 60 W bulb. Marette lights the area at or beside a mirror rather than standing in for a ceiling fitting; with two of them either side of a mirror the light arrives from two directions and casts no shadow across the face. The fitting works with dimmable lamps, which also needs a dimmer in the circuit.

The body is steel and the shade opal glass. Marette is designed by Kichler and reaches us through Elstead Lighting; the manufacturer covers it with a two-year guarantee.
