Maybeck is a table lamp by Quoizel, supplied by Elstead Lighting, with a Tiffany-style shade. The conical shade is built from rectangular pieces of art glass in shades of white, blue, amber and red, and its lower edge is stepped and staggered. The steel and resin base has a Valiant Bronze finish – a dark, reddish bronze.
Size and placement
The lamp is 62.9 cm tall and the shade is 40.6 cm in diameter. This is a large table lamp: compare the shade diameter with the top of the chest of drawers, side table or desk it will stand on, because the shade overhangs the base on every side. It weighs 5.12 kg, so it stands steadily but needs a solid piece of furniture.
The lamp runs from a cable with a plug, so no electrical installation is needed – a nearby socket is enough. It is protection class I. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use only.
Bulbs and light
Under the shade are two E27 lamp holders for bulbs of up to 60 W each, and two ball pull chains hang from its edge. The bulbs are not included – you need to buy two. The coloured glass lets through light tinted by the stained glass, while light falls straight down onto the tabletop through the open bottom of the shade; a warm 2700–3000 K colour brings out the amber and red tones.
The lamp works with dimmable bulbs – you need a dimmer and bulbs labelled as dimmable.
Craftsmanship
The art glass in Tiffany lamps varies in shade from piece to piece – the manufacturer notes that no two are identical, so the shade colours may differ slightly from the photo. The base is a column narrowing towards the top on a square foot with an embossed ornament.
