Half a lantern against the wall

Genoa is a classic lantern cut lengthwise — a hexagonal body with a roof and a decorative finial, sitting flush against the façade on its flat back. That keeps it just 13 cm proud of the wall, so it does not obstruct a narrow passage or an outward-opening door, yet from the side and from below it keeps the full silhouette of a traditional lantern.

Patinated copper on cast aluminium

The body is a cast aluminium alloy, powder-coated. Norlys offers patination of the finish across this family — and that is exactly what this variant is: a warm copper patina where raised areas read lighter and recesses darker, like old, handled metal. Aluminium matters twice here: it does not rust like steel, and it is light — the whole fitting weighs 1.75 kg, so no special anchors are needed. Sealing comes from an EPDM gland, a rubber resistant to ozone and UV that does not harden after a few seasons the way ordinary rubber does.

IP54 and the temperature range

IP54 means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction — the right level for a fitting on a building wall, including an unsheltered one. The manufacturer specifies an ambient range of −20 to +45 °C, which covers winter with room to spare. Built to protection class II (double insulated), it needs no earth conductor brought to it — a real convenience on older façade wiring.

The lamp: what fits and what is allowed

An E27 socket, supply 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz, lamp not included. The manufacturer's instructions give two power limits: halogen up to 46 W or LED up to 9 W. That difference is not a mistake — inside a closed lantern the heat has nowhere to go, and LED electronics tolerate it less well than a filament, so the LED limit is far stricter. Bulb size matters too: Ø 55–60 mm and 110 mm long at most, i.e. a classic A60 — a large globe or a long filament tube will not fit. The panes are clear, so the lamp is visible; Norlys also offers a milky-glazed version in this family if you prefer more diffuse light.

Installation

Fixed through two ø 5.5 mm holes at 80 mm spacing. The terminals accept conductors up to 2 × 2.5 mm², and the gland is designed for a round insulated cable of ø 7–10.5 mm — worth checking before you pull the cable out of the wall, because flat installation cable will not seal properly.
