The Nowodvorski SPIKE LED M 9100 is a garden spike spotlight — a head on a ground spike that is pushed straight into the soil, with no base and no drilling. Its integrated LED module of up to 5 W delivers 300 lm of warm 3000 K light, concentrated into a narrow 30° beam.
What a narrow 30° beam is for
Thirty degrees is an accent angle, not a general one. A beam this tight lifts one object out of the dark — a tree trunk, a clipped shrub, a section of façade, a sculpture, a gate post — rather than brightening a whole lawn. Set close to a wall it throws the characteristic vertical fan of light; aimed up into a canopy it picks out the structure of the branches. For lighting a path, where wide distribution is what you want, this is not the right model — 300 lm at 30° is a point, not a pool.
Spike mounting
The manufacturer is unambiguous about the mounting method: ground spike. The fitting is pressed into soft ground and its overall height falls between 28 and 32 cm. The main virtue of this arrangement is that it is reversible: the fitting can be pulled up and moved at any time, as a plant grows or a bed is replanted. It is worth allowing for that when laying the cable — a loop of slack at each point buys freedom later.
Installation and buried joints
The fitting runs at 220–230 V, 50/60 Hz and is protection class I, so the installation requires an earth conductor — not optional on a mains-fed metal garden fitting. Nowodvorski names the WATERPROOF CONNECTOR 8845 as the matching accessory; it is the sort of part that gets forgotten, yet whether the installation survives its first winter depends on the quality of the joint in the ground.
Durability and materials
The body is lacquered aluminium in black, the lens is glass, and the remaining parts are plastic. An IP54 rating means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction — right for a fitting standing in a border, but not for jets of water and not for a spot where water might pool after heavy rain. Avoid hollows in the ground when planning positions.
Life and consumption
The module's stated life is 10,000 hours and the energy efficiency class is G. The light source is integrated and supplied with the fitting — there is no lamp to change, so at the end of its life the whole unit is replaced. The power factor is 0.55, which is worth accounting for in the protective device when several of these share a circuit.
