BERN 655GA is a square outdoor wall light, 24.5 cm on each side, with a front plate of hot-dip galvanised steel and a satin diffuser made of safety glass. Two horizontal steel bands run across the glass, fixed at the sides with two bolts, as on the other lights of the Bern series.
Size and installation
The light measures 24.5 × 24.5 cm, projects 12 cm from the wall and weighs 2.95 kg. It is a flat, square plate rather than a narrow tube, so compare this size with the free wall area beside your front door or on the balcony wall. It is fixed through two ø4.5 mm holes spaced 170 × 50 mm apart.
The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm² and a round cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. The light can be looped through with cable up to 3 × 1.5 mm², so several lights can run from one circuit. It is protection class I, which means it must be earthed, and the manufacturer requires installation by a qualified electrician.
What light it gives
Inside is an integrated Philips LED module. The whole light draws 5.2 W and delivers 477 lm, roughly what an old 40 W bulb gave. That is enough for an entrance, a house number or part of a terrace, not for lighting a whole yard. The 3000 K colour temperature is a warm white, and the satin glass diffuses the light so no bright point is visible.
The light can be dimmed with a trailing edge (TE) phase dimmer. No bulb needs to be bought: the LED source is included, and the module and driver are replaceable by a professional if needed. The manufacturer states an L80B20 lifetime of over 72,000 hours.
Outdoors all year round
IP54 means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction, so the light can be mounted on a façade without a canopy. It is rated IK07 for impact resistance, has a silicone gasket and works between −20 and +45 °C. The base is powder-coated cast aluminium and the front is hot-dip galvanised steel: the zinc layer has a matt silver-grey finish and protects the steel from corrosion.
The manufacturer intends the light for house exteriors and gardens, balconies, and the façades of hotels and restaurants.
