Palma is a medium outdoor wall lantern by Hinkley, supplied through Elstead Lighting. A tapered aluminium frame in a burnished bronze finish holds panes of clear glass, and the roof is crowned by a decorative plume of leaves – the pineapple motif that gives the series its name. The manufacturer intends it for outdoor installation.
Size and space on the wall
The lantern is 45.7 cm tall including the roof finial and 25.4 cm wide, and it projects 30.1 cm from the wall. Compare the width with the free space between the door frame and a downpipe or corner, and the projection with any strip of wall swept by a door leaf or shutter. The mounting plate measures 22.2 × 12.7 cm. The fitting weighs 3.8 kg.
For a building corner the manufacturer offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BROWN or C-BKT2-BLACK – useful where there is no flat section of wall beside the entrance.
Which bulbs are needed
Inside are two candle-style E14 lampholders, each for a lamp of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included – two need to be bought. The glass is clear, so the bulbs stay visible – their shape and colour become part of the lantern's look.
The lantern is compatible with dimmable lamps: if the circuit has a dimmer, both bulbs must be marked as dimmable.
Construction and conditions of use
The body is made of aluminium, which does not rust, and the IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction. The manufacturer intends the lantern for a facade by the entrance, a terrace or a garden. The form is classic: a lantern narrowing towards the bottom, with a pitched roof and a decorative finial.
The fitting is protection class I, so it must be connected to a protective earth conductor – the wiring at the mounting point needs an earth. It runs on 220–240 V mains voltage. The series also includes a black version of this lantern (HK-PALMA-M-BK).
