s.luce Beam LED Pendant Light 3-Light Black, White Canopy Ø 40 cm

Beam is a pendant light made of three separate spherical shades 8 cm across, hung on thin cables under one round ceiling canopy. The shades are black, the canopy white, and a fluted lens on the underside of each shade is where the light leaves.

How big it is and how high the shades hang

The canopy measures 40 cm across and 7 cm deep - it, not the shade, is what the 40 cm in the name refers to, and it is what needs room on the ceiling. The shade itself is small: a sphere of 8 cm.

Each of the three points hangs on its own cable of up to 150 cm and can be shortened independently of the others, so the shades sit level or staggered as you choose. Over a table the lower edges are usually set 70-80 cm above the top.

How much light it gives and of what kind

The three LED modules deliver 1500 lm between them at 24 W. That is roughly an old 100 W bulb split across three points, so Beam works as light over a defined surface and as additional light rather than as the only source in a large room.

The colour temperature is 3000 K, a warm white. The light source is built into the shades and cannot be replaced - no bulbs are bought for it, and the manufacturer states 25,000 operating hours and 15,000 switching cycles.

Dimming and connection

The fitting dims on a phase dimmer working on leading or trailing edge - the dimmer type is worth checking before buying, because 0-10 V and DALI controllers will not work here.

The lamp runs on 230 V and belongs to protection class I, so the ceiling box needs an earth conductor. The energy efficiency class is G.

Build and the other versions

The body is metal and a translucent lens closes the shade. Black shades are paired here with a white canopy, so against a light ceiling it is mainly the spheres and the cables that stay visible.

Beam is also made in a five-point version and with aluminium shades and a black canopy, so the same series can be matched to a longer table or a different ceiling.
