s.luce Velo pendant light, clear glass Ø 18 cm, E27, white 500 cm suspension

Velo is a pendant light with a single cylindrical shade in clear glass, ribbed vertically along its full height. The shade is 18 cm in diameter and 33 cm tall, and hangs from a white suspension on a 500 cm fabric-covered cable.

Where to hang it

The five-metre cable is cut to the required height during installation. The manufacturer intends this version for tall spaces — galleries, entrance halls and stairwells, where the light hangs from a ceiling one storey up. In an ordinary room the cable is simply shortened further.

Velo shades come in three diameters (18, 20 and 25 cm) and in clear, smoked and brown glass, and the manufacturer shows them hung together at different heights. Several pieces from the series can therefore be grouped over a staircase or a table.

What light it gives

The fitting has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W; the bulb is not included. The shade is clear and open at the bottom, so the bulb stays visible through the glass and light leaves downwards unobstructed — the bulb's shape and colour shape the look as much as the shade does. A warm, yellowish light of 2700–3000 K comes down to the bulb you choose.

The light can be dimmed if you use a bulb marked as dimmable together with a dimmer. The IP20 rating means installation in dry rooms.

Construction

The shade is mouth-blown, so individual pieces may differ slightly. The suspension and lampholder are white metal — the same shade is also sold with a black suspension.
