STEINEL IS 3360-R COM1 DE 079659 white recessed ceiling motion sensor

The STEINEL IS 3360-R COM1 DE 079659 is a round infrared motion and presence sensor for recessed ceiling installation. A white plastic housing in RAL 9003 surrounds the projecting sensor lens. This COM1 version switches lighting on and off; it is not the DALI or KNX version of the sensor.

Understand the three detection areas

The sensor covers a full 360°. For movement across its field of view, STEINEL specifies a maximum radius of 20 m, equivalent to a 40 m diameter. That largest figure should not be applied to every kind of movement. The detection diameter for someone approaching the sensor is up to 8 m, while the presence detection diameter is up to 3 m. Consider the expected direction of travel when deciding where to place the unit.

The specified mounting height is 2.5–4 m, with 2.8 m identified as the optimum. Manufacturer-listed uses include production areas, warehouses, stairwells, reception areas and underground or multi-storey car parks. This particular recessed version is intended for indoor installation, rather than every outdoor application mentioned for the wider IS 3360 family.

Choose when the lights operate

The brightness threshold can be set between 2 and 1000 lx, with an operating time from 5 seconds to 15 minutes. TEACH accepts the current brightness as the threshold. Settings are available through potentiometers and optional remote controls; no remote control is included. This version does not provide constant-lighting control.

Check the connected load by lamp type. The 2000 W rating applies to resistive loads and is not a universal LED rating. STEINEL specifies 600 W for LED lamps above 8 W. The appropriate load category in the documentation must be checked before connection.

Allow for the recessed housing

The unit measures 124 mm in diameter and 121 mm in height. Installation planning must account for the housing above the ceiling, not just the visible ring. Its plain circular form suits a minimalist technical interior without adding decorative detailing. It requires a 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz mains supply. Connection must be carried out professionally with the supply isolated. The package contains one sensor.
