CHAIN 91 is a linear pendant light from the Polish maker Thoro, built from three overlapping steel elements shaped like chain links. The body and canopy are ultramarine, and the light comes out through the gaps between the links. The CHAIN collection was designed by RYZY Studio.
How big it is and where it hangs
The bar is 91 cm long with a cross-section of about 10 cm, and the total height including the suspension is 200 cm — a figure to compare with the height of your own room. The light hangs on two cables, and the power cable runs from a cylindrical canopy 6 cm in diameter and 26 cm tall.
The maker intends CHAIN for use over a table or a kitchen island, in corridors, restaurants and lounge areas. Over a dining table the lower edge is usually hung 70–80 cm above the top: the light then covers the table without shining into the eyes of those seated. For longer tables the same collection includes a 158 cm version.
How much and what kind of light it gives
The source is an integrated LED module supplied with the fitting, so no bulbs need to be bought — but the module cannot be swapped like a bulb. Power consumption is 9.75 W and the source's luminous flux is 1290 lm, roughly what an old 75–100 W incandescent bulb gave. 3000 K is warm white.
The light spreads rhythmically, alternating in two directions along the links. The collection has integrated PUSH-DIMM/DALI control: brightness is adjusted with a push button wired into the installation or from a DALI system, with no separate dimmer.
Construction
The fitting is steel in a strong, deep blue — the canopy is the same colour, so no white part shows on the ceiling. It is made in Poland and carries a five-year warranty. CHAIN 91 also comes in other colours and in 4000 K, and a wall light completes the collection.
