Tribeca 24 pendant lamp Black Nordlux

Tribeca 24 is a pendant lamp whose shade is built from vertical wooden slats arranged into a barrel shape and finished in black. The shade is 24 cm across and 30 cm tall, open at the top and the bottom, with a metal ring holding the slats together at the lower edge. The fitting hangs on a black round cable 300 cm long.

How large it is and where to hang it

A shade 24 cm across lights only a narrow slice of a tabletop. Over a table 80–90 cm wide it takes a shade of around 40 cm to keep the proportions, so Tribeca 24 works better over a narrow worktop, in a hallway or beside a bed, and over a longer table you hang several of them in a row. The lower edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the surface — the light then covers the area underneath and stays out of the eyes of anyone seated.

The cable is 300 cm long, so the drop is shortened at the ceiling to whatever you need. The manufacturer states that the cable is not intended to be replaced. The whole fitting weighs 0.71 kg, light enough for an ordinary ceiling hook; in a plasterboard ceiling the fixing has to reach the supporting structure.

What light it gives and which bulb to buy

The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W, and no bulb is included — you choose the colour and the brightness yourself. Around 800 lm matches the brightness of the old 60 W bulb, and 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light.

Gaps remain between the slats, so light also escapes sideways and draws a striped shadow across the wall and ceiling — Nordlux names that effect as a feature of the Tribeca series. The bulb stays visible from outside, which is why a decorative bulb with an exposed filament suits this fitting. The light can be dimmed, but that needs a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.

Build

The slats are wood finished in black, and the cable has a black plastic sheath. The fitting is class II, so it is wired without an earth conductor. Natural material and a plain, organic shape are what identify the Scandinavian style — Nordlux built the whole Tribeca series on them.
