A classic wall lantern, facing down
The VT-750 is a six-sided lantern hung from a shaped wall bracket, with the shade facing downwards and a decorative finial closing off the body underneath. It is the most recognisable shape in outdoor lighting — the same one that has stood beside front doors, on porches and along driveways for decades. The down-facing version throws its light onto the threshold and the steps rather than into the sky, which matters both practically and for keeping light pollution down.
Aluminium and glass, IP44
The body is cast aluminium painted matt black, and the six panels of the shade are filled with clear glass. Aluminium does not rust, so the fitting takes rain and damp without corrosion creeping along the joints — the failure that shows up on steel fittings after two or three seasons. IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction: the lantern is made for outdoors, but it does best somewhere partly sheltered — under an eave, on a porch, in an entrance recess — rather than on an open wall taking driving rain.
An E27 socket — you choose the lamp
The fitting takes a standard E27 lamp of up to 40 W. The lamp is not included, which is an advantage rather than an omission: the same lantern reads completely differently with a 2700 K, 470 lm LED (warm, discreet light at a door) than with a 1000-lumen 4000 K lamp (working light by a garage). The 40 W limit is electrical — in LED terms that covers practically every E27 lamp on the market, the brightest included.
Installation
The lantern fixes to the wall through the flat part of the bracket; screws and wall plugs are supplied. The cable connects to a terminal block inside the fitting — no soldering, no connector blocks. Supply is ordinary 220–240 V, 50 Hz, so it wires into an existing outdoor lighting circuit with no driver or transformer.
Dimensions, and what follows from them
The lantern is 36 cm tall, 20.8 cm wide, and projects 17 cm from the wall. Height is the figure that matters when planning: beside a front door, lanterns this size are usually hung about 180–200 cm above the ground so the lower finial sits roughly at eye level. A 17 cm projection is enough for the light to fall in front of the threshold rather than down the wall itself.
