Nowodvorski PATHWAY: one design from bollard to lighting column
PATHWAY is a family of outdoor post lights by Nowodvorski, the Polish lighting maker that designs and produces its luminaires in Poland. The idea is simple: a slim black column topped by a flat, rectangular head that throws light down and out over the ground. The same outline comes in several heights, so a path, a driveway and a car park can share one look without every light being the same size.
Sizes and what each one is for
PATHWAY lights use integrated LED, run on 230 V, are rated IP65 and are built from lacquered steel and aluminium with a clear diffuser. The difference lies in height and output:
| Version |
Height |
Luminous flux |
Typical place |
| PATHWAY S |
118 cm |
2200 lm |
edges of paths, entrances, terraces |
| PATHWAY M |
198 cm |
2200 lm |
garden lamp post by a gate or path |
| PATHWAY L |
309 cm |
3600 lm |
driveways, wider courtyards |
| PATHWAY PRO |
392 cm |
5700–5900 lm |
car parks, estate roads, hotel grounds |
The shorter versions give a warm 3000 K light. The PRO comes in 3000 K or 4000 K, the cooler option suiting parking areas and commercial grounds. A beam angle of about 100° spreads the light broadly rather than pooling it in a tight circle.
Planning and installation
The posts usually fix through a base plate, and the taller the column, the more solid the ground beneath it has to be. The PATHWAY foundation kit is a steel plate with four anchor rods that is set into fresh concrete, levelled and left to cure for a day before the light is bolted on. Check on the product page which versions it suits and which mounting each one lists. The cable is laid in the ground to each post, and the 230 V connection is work for a qualified electrician.
Care and common mistakes
Wipe the diffuser now and then with a soft damp cloth, as dust and pollen on it take the edge off the light. After the first winter, check that the nuts on the base are still tight, since frost can shift the ground slightly. Keep shrubs and climbers trimmed back from the head, or the light ends up on the leaves instead of the path. A frequent mistake is choosing a column that is too tall for a narrow path, which lights the neighbour’s windows more than the ground.
FAQ
Can I replace the bulb in a PATHWAY light?
No, the LED is built into the head. It is rated for around 30,000 hours, which is many years of evening use.
Do the tall versions really need concrete?
The tall columns are designed for a solid concrete foundation: a post of three or four metres catches the wind, and a ground spike would not hold it. Check the mounting on the product page of the version you choose.
How far apart should outdoor post lights be?
A common rule of thumb is one and a half to two times the post height, so roughly 2 m for the 118 cm version and further for the columns. Closer spacing gives more even light on the ground; wider spacing leaves pools of light with darker gaps between them.
Low models sit well alongside other bollard lights, and the full range of the brand is on the Nowodvorski page.
