Bosque 540.SC recessed ceiling downlight, silver, GX5.3, Lumifall

The Bosque 540.SC is a round recessed downlight from Lumifall with a brushed aluminium trim in silver and a polished chrome cone inside. The cone is removable, and the lamp sits set back behind the trim, so from below you mainly see the bright ring of the reflector rather than the bulb itself.

Dimensions and ceiling installation

The trim is 92 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm thick, and the cut-out is 78 mm. The body above the ceiling is 72 mm across and goes in 25 mm, and the manufacturer requires at least 90 mm of free space above the ceiling – a figure to check before cutting the hole, especially in a suspended plasterboard ceiling. Spring clips hold the downlight in the opening, and it weighs 115 g.

Which bulb and which power supply

The fitting is supplied without a bulb. As standard it has a GX5.3 lampholder on 2 × 0.75 mm² leads, intended for MR16 lamps – halogen up to 50 W or LED, which the manufacturer recommends. MR16 lamps run on 12 V, so this version needs a 12 V transformer or driver hidden above the ceiling.

The manufacturer also offers an optional GU10 lampholder. GU10 bulbs run directly on 230 V without a transformer, which simplifies the installation – worth deciding before you buy, because it determines what has to fit above the ceiling. The colour and brightness of the light depend on the bulb you choose, and its beam angle decides whether the downlight gives general or spot lighting.

Where it fits

The plain silver trim without ornament is a modern form. The downlight suits a living room, bedroom, kitchen, dining room, hallway or office – installed in several units, it gives even light from the ceiling without visible fittings.
