The large Chasm is an outdoor LED wall lantern by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its body is an upright hexagonal prism of matte black aluminium, open at the top and bottom. Halfway up, a band painted to look like wood wraps around it and covers the wall mount.
How big it is and where to mount it
The lantern is 52 cm high, 17.2 cm wide and projects 13 cm from the wall, and it weighs 2.01 kg. Compare that height with the space by your front door or on the facade. The IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction, so the manufacturer rates it for outdoor use on a building wall. It is a Class I fitting, so the installation needs an earth conductor.
The back is flat, so a building corner needs a separately sold corner bracket – the manufacturer lists codes C-BKT2-BLACK and C-BKT2-BROWN.
What light it gives
Inside are two integrated LED modules, one shining up and one down. Each is rated 9.5 W and gives 900 lm, and their 3000 K colour temperature is warm white. The light leaves through both open ends and draws beams on the wall above and below the fitting rather than lighting it evenly. The sources are built in – you do not buy bulbs for it or replace them yourself. The colour rendering index is above Ra 80.
Where it fits
The manufacturer describes Chasm as a modern design with a geometric silhouette: a plain black form warmed only by the wood-look band. It suits the facade of a house and the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The range also includes a smaller, medium version of this lantern.
