Clarke is a wall light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting: an L-shaped steel arm rises from a round wall plate and carries a tapered black metal shade, trimmed top and bottom with a brass band and upright struts. The frame is finished in Warm Brass. A pull-switch chain hangs below the shade, so the light is switched on and off at the fitting itself.
Size
The wall light is 40 cm high, the shade 18.4 cm wide, and it projects 22.2 cm from the wall. Compare that projection with the spot where it will hang – in a walkway or beside a mirror, how far it reaches into the room is what counts. It weighs 1.05 kg.
It is a Class I fitting and must be connected to an earth conductor. It is designed for interior use.
Bulb and switch
There is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included – the maker recommends a clear E27 LED bulb in the classic pear shape as a separate accessory. The metal shade is opaque, so light leaves through the openings at the bottom and top rather than through the shade wall.
The pull switch lets you use the light independently of the wall switch. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs – to dim it you need a dimmer switch and a bulb marked as dimmable.
Style and range
The maker describes Clarke as a blend of classic elements with a transitional design: the black shade contrasts with the brass frame and bands. It suits a dining room, on the wall beside the table.
The range also includes versions in darkened brass with an off-white linen shade and in polished nickel with a white metal shade.
