Elstead Cleveland CL8-S outdoor hanging lantern weathered bronze E27

The Elstead Cleveland CL8-S is a small outdoor lantern suspended from a chain. Its cast aluminium frame has a weathered bronze finish and surrounds curved, clear seeded glass. Upright ribs, a shaped cap and a decorative lower finial give it a traditional lantern outline, while the bulb remains visible through the glazing.

Plan for the complete hanging drop

The lantern body is 38.4 cm high, with a width and diameter of 18.5 cm. Those measurements do not describe the complete suspended fitting: the manufacturer specifies a total drop of 45.2–141.2 cm. Compare that range with the ceiling height, the intended position of the lower edge and the clearance needed by nearby opening doors.

The chain measures 102.8 cm. A round ceiling canopy and single suspension require a mounting point above the lantern; this is not a wall light for fixing directly to a vertical surface. The narrow body limits its width, but the full drop still needs checking before choosing the installation position.

Choose one E27 bulb separately

There is one E27 socket, rated for a bulb of up to 60 W. No light source is included. Brightness, colour temperature and the appearance of the visible bulb are therefore separate choices rather than characteristics established by the product photograph. Clear glazing leaves the bulb on view instead of concealing its shape behind an opaque shade.

The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps. Dimming depends on selecting an appropriate bulb and compatible control equipment; this does not mean that a dimmer is built into the lantern. The fitting uses a 220–240 V mains supply and is Class I, requiring a protective earth connection.

A traditional lantern at an outdoor entrance

Its exterior designation and IP44 rating support use on a veranda, covered terrace, balcony or gazebo with a suitable overhead mounting point. The same hanging format can serve hotel and restaurant entrances. Weathered detailing and the decorative frame suit classical, rustic and vintage settings. IP44 provides protection against splashing water; it does not mean that the fitting is dust-tight or suitable for immersion.
