The large Cleveland is a garden lamp post on a tall column, 232.5 cm from the ground to the top, with a single lantern head in a classic shape. The body is cast aluminium in a Weathered Bronze finish: almost black, with copper rubbed through on the edges. The curved shade of seeded glass is capped by a roof topped with a turned finial.
Size and placement
At 232.5 cm the head sits above the heads of passers-by, so the post lights a wider area around it, such as a driveway, a courtyard or the entrance to a property, rather than just the ground at its foot. The widest point is 24.3 cm in diameter. The column rises from a fluted, flared base finished with a hexagonal flange.
The post weighs 4.28 kg. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected against splashing water from any direction and can stand outdoors without cover. It is protection class I, so it needs an earth conductor when connected to the outdoor supply.
Which lamp it needs
The head has one E27 lampholder for a lamp of up to 60 W. No lamp is included. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps. Elstead recommends a clear, dimmable Litec E27 Edison-style LED lamp for it: 7 W, 800 lm, 3000 K. 800 lm matches an old 60 W bulb, and 3000 K is warm white.
Seeded glass is not frosted, so the lamp stays visible inside the shade while the bubbles break up its glare a little. A clear lamp with a visible filament suits that effect better than an opal one.
Style and use
Elstead describes Cleveland as having clean, classical lines and a curved glass shade, a shape that follows traditional street lamps. It suits a garden and a driveway, as well as the entrance to a hotel or restaurant.
