Etoile Medium Pendant - 1 Light - Matte Black and Gold Leaf Elstead

The medium Etoile is a pendant with a narrow, conical steel shade in matte black, painted gold on the inside. Above the shade, on the black stem, sits a star in a Gold Leaf finish. It is Elstead Lighting's own line, available in two widths and also in aged brass.

Size and hanging height

The shade is 17.8 cm in diameter and the fitting with its stem is 65.4 cm high. It comes with 91.4 cm of black cord, so the overall drop from the ceiling adjusts from 65.4 to 156.8 cm. Above a dining table (75 cm) the bottom of the shade usually hangs 70–80 cm above the top, around 145–155 cm from the floor – compare the difference between that and your room height with the range above.

The narrow shade takes little space, so several can hang in a row above a longer counter. The pendant weighs 1.5 kg and the round ceiling pan is black. It is a Class I fitting and must be connected to a protective earth conductor; the manufacturer intends it for interiors.

Which bulb and what light

The fitting has one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The manufacturer recommends a clear Edison-style E27 LED bulb, sold separately. The metal shade is opaque, so the light is directed downward onto the surface below, and the gold interior gives it a warmer tone.

The pendant is compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming needs an E27 bulb sold as dimmable and a suitable dimmer.

Where it works

The manufacturer names kitchens and bars, and the light is also listed for dining rooms – anywhere the light should fall on a specific surface. The form is contemporary: a plain cone without ornament, with a single accent in the gold star.
