Freeport Medium Wall Lantern - 1 Light - Textured White Elstead

Freeport is a medium wall lantern by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass is held in a grid frame under a conical roof, and the whole lantern hangs from an arm fixed to a rectangular wall plate. The Textured White finish is a white with a slightly rough, matt surface.

Size and mounting

The lantern is 30.1 cm tall, 20.7 cm in diameter and projects 23.2 cm from the wall. Compare that projection with the width of the path by your door and the swing of the door leaf. It weighs 1.34 kg. Where there is no flat wall by the entrance, an optional corner bracket is available: C-BKT2-BLACK or C-BKT2-BROWN.

The manufacturer rates it for exterior use at IP44, meaning protection against splashing water from any direction. The housing is a weather-resistant composite. It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.

Light source

The lantern has one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 40 W; the bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible – its shape and finish decide how the lantern looks after dark. You choose the colour and brightness yourself; warm 2700–3000 K is the usual choice at a front door.

The lantern works with dimmable lamps – to dim it you need a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.

Style and versions

Hinkley describes Freeport as a classic New England design: a traditional lantern with a grid frame and a roof, without modern additions. The series also includes small and large sizes and a Textured Black finish.
