FREYA is a black metal table lamp by Nordlux with a soft, organic outline. A wide upper shade, 25 cm across, hangs from a curved arm and closes over a smaller lower shade, and the whole lamp stands on a flat round base 18 cm in diameter. The arm is a slim tube 1.15 cm thick, so from the side the lamp looks light despite the wide shade.
What light it gives
The bulb sits between the two shades and cannot be seen from any angle, so the light comes out indirectly, reflected off the inside of the upper shade, and does not glare. It is a lamp for calm, diffused light in a living room or bedroom rather than a focused light for a desk or for reading. It cannot be dimmed.
The bulb and changing it
The lamp has one E14 socket and takes a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulb is included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself – 2700 K, for example, if you want warm, yellowish light. The lower shade is removable, which lets you change the bulb without taking the lamp apart.
Power and placement
The lamp has a 150 cm black plastic-sheathed cable with an in-line switch – compare that length with the distance from the side table to the nearest socket. The cable cannot be replaced. The lamp is protection class II, meaning it is double-insulated and needs no earth. It weighs 1.16 kg. The manufacturer describes it as a Nordic-style lamp, and the matt black with its rounded forms suits living rooms and bedrooms as well as hotel rooms and restaurants.
