GES971 is a Gea Luce outdoor wall light shaped as a rectangular block of die-cast aluminium with a white finish. Light leaves through two slots, upward and downward, closed with clear glass. The LED module is built in and comes with the fitting, so there are no bulbs to buy.
Size and mounting
According to the maker's drawing the light is 22 cm long and 8.5 cm high, and projects 10.5 cm from the wall. Compare the 22 cm with the width of the pillar or strip of wall beside the door where it is to hang. The light weighs about 1 kg.
It is a protection class I fitting, so an earth conductor must reach the junction box; it runs on 220–240 V mains. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, so the light can hang outdoors without a canopy over it.
How it spreads the light
The light shines both ways: part of it runs up the wall and part down onto the ground below the fitting. That draws two bright bands on the facade and lights the ground right by the wall. It marks an entrance or a wall and is not a floodlight for a whole yard.
The 15 W LED module gives 755 lm at 4000 K, which is neutral white, with a 120° beam. A colour rendering index above Ra 80 is enough for lighting an entrance and the path by the house. The fitting cannot be dimmed and works on/off only, and the maker states a lifetime of 25,000 hours.
Where it fits
The light suits a facade beside the entrance, or the wall of a terrace or balcony. The form is minimalist: a smooth white block without ornament, with only the glass slots showing. Gea Luce also makes the same body in anthracite grey (GES970) and in a rust finish (GES972).
