Griffin is a flush ceiling light by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. The shade is a wide bowl of etched opal glass, painted white on the inside and held by softly curved arms in polished chrome. The ceiling plate and the ball finial closing the bowl from below are chrome as well.
Size and where it fits
The fitting measures 42.2 cm across and 19.4 cm in height. That is how much room it takes below the ceiling — a figure to compare with the height of your own room. A flush light leaves far more headroom than a pendant, so it also suits rooms with a lower ceiling. It is intended for bedrooms and dining rooms, and for indoor use only.
The light weighs 3.1 kg. It is Class I, which means the ceiling box must provide a protective earth conductor to connect to the metal body.
Bulbs and dimming
There are three E27 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself. Three LED bulbs equivalent to an old 60 W bulb (about 800 lm each) give roughly 2400 lm together — enough for the main lighting of a room. For a bedroom, 2700–3000 K is the usual choice: warm, slightly yellow light.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs. To dim it you need a dimmer switch and bulbs that are specifically marked as dimmable.
Shade and finish
The etched opal glass with its white inner layer spreads the light across the whole bowl, so the bulbs do not show as bright spots and do not glare when you look up — which matters most in a bedroom, where you see the light from the bed. The polished chrome of the arms and ceiling plate has a mirror shine and reflects the light. The manufacturer describes the style as softly modern: a plain bowl with no ornament, its only decorative accent being the rounded arms ending in small balls.
