Hans is an outdoor wall lantern by Hinkley, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A conical shade hangs beneath a flat canopy set on an angled bracket that screws to the wall, and the whole fitting is finished in textured white. The body is made of weather-resistant composite.
Where it can be installed
The fitting is rated IP44, which means it is protected against water splashing from any direction — it can be mounted on an outside wall by the entrance, on the facade or next to a patio. The manufacturer also states sea-water protection and gives a 5-year anti-corrosion guarantee, which matters for homes near the coast.
The lantern is 15.4 cm high and 12.7 cm wide, projects 16.1 cm from the wall and weighs 0.74 kg. For mounting on the corner of a building, the manufacturer offers a separately sold corner bracket (C-BKT2-BROWN or C-BKT2-BLACK). It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
What light it gives
The GU10 lampholder takes a replaceable 8 W LED bulb, which the manufacturer includes in the box. It gives 560 lm, roughly as much as an old 40–50 W incandescent bulb, at 2700 K — a warm, slightly yellow light.
The shade directs the light downwards, and the manufacturer describes the design as dark-sky friendly, meaning it limits light going upwards. The lantern can be dimmed with a dimmable bulb and a suitable dimmer, and the GU10 bulb can later be swapped for any other with the same cap.
Appearance
A simple geometric form — a cone under a rectangular canopy — gives the lantern a modern look. The white body blends into a light-coloured facade, so the fitting is barely noticeable during the day. The Hans range is also available in textured black and Architectural Bronze.
