Jupiter 510 CLASSIC Desk Lamp, Swing Arm, Patinated Brass, Fabric Shade, E27 max 15 W

510 CLASSIC is a desk lamp from the Polish maker Jupiter of Częstochowa, in a frankly classical idiom: patinated brass and a cream conical fabric shade trimmed in gold. It is a design that does not date, because it was never fashionable — it suits a study with a wooden desk, a library, and interiors where a modern lamp would look out of place.

The swing arm — the detail that matters

Base and shade are not rigidly joined. Between them runs an arm with two pivots, which lets you push the light away from the base and bring it over a book or a keyboard, or swing it aside when you need the desk. Hence the 53 cm depth that looks surprising on paper: that is not the size of the object but the reach of the extended arm. The base itself takes up very little room.

The bulb

The holder takes one E27 bulb of no more than 15 W, and no bulb is included. The limit is worth knowing, because an E27 thread brings to mind the old 60 and 100 W lamps — but here a fabric shade closes the heat in around the source. Fifteen watts of LED equals the old hundred today, so the cap costs nothing in brightness; for a reading lamp a 2700 K LED of around 800–1000 lm is a good choice.

Build

The construction combines steel (base and arm, in a patinated brass finish), fabric (shade) and PVC. At 2.56 kg it has enough mass to stand steady even with the arm fully extended. Height 56 cm, width 32 cm. The IP20 rating restricts it to indoor use. Jupiter gives the fitting a five-year warranty.
