Lighthouse is an outdoor wall lantern by Feiss (Generation Lighting), distributed by Elstead Lighting. A cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass – glass with small air bubbles – is wrapped in horizontal and vertical metal bands, and the whole lantern hangs from a rectangular back plate. The body is aluminium in a textured black finish: a rough, matt coating with faint warm highlights showing along the edges. The maker gives the whole range a nautical character.
Size and fixing to the facade
The lantern is 35.2 cm tall and 18.1 cm wide, and it projects 22.9 cm from the wall. This is the medium size – the range also has a smaller wall lantern, so compare the size with the height of the door or the width of the pillar it will hang on. It weighs 2.62 kg.
The back plate is flat, so the fitting needs a flat stretch of wall. For the corner of a building the maker offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK.
Where it can hang and what light it gives
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern is intended for outdoor mounting – by an entrance, on a facade, beside a terrace or a gate. In our catalogue it is also listed for hotel and restaurant lighting.
The fitting has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is included. The glass is clear and the bubbles only slightly bend the light, so the bulb stays plainly visible – its shape therefore matters to the look, and a warm 2700 K lamp suits the character of the lantern. The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps; dimming needs a dimmable bulb and a dimmer.
It runs on 230 V mains, and as a Class I fitting its supply cable needs a protective earth conductor connected to the earth terminal.
