Lighthouse is an outdoor flush ceiling light by Feiss (Generation Lighting), distributed by Elstead Lighting, mounted directly against the ceiling. A round aluminium body in textured black holds a cylinder of clear seeded glass with air bubbles, wrapped by a metal ring. The manufacturer describes the series as outdoor lighting with a nautical feel.
Dimensions and where to mount it
The light is 25.4 cm in diameter and only 14.6 cm tall, so it works where a pendant would take up too much room, for example under a low terrace roof or in a gazebo. It weighs 2.3 kg.
The IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction, which is why the manufacturer intends the fitting for outdoor mounting. It is a Class I fitting, which means the installation needs an earth conductor to connect it.
Light source
The fitting has two E27 sockets, each taking a bulb of up to 40 W. No bulbs are included, so you choose the colour and brightness yourself. With a dimmer you need bulbs marked as dimmable, as those are what the manufacturer states the fitting is compatible with.
The seeded glass is clear, so the bulbs are visible through it. If a bare filament should not dazzle, frosted or decorative-shaped bulbs are the better choice.
Style and use
The textured black finish, the ring around the shade and the bubbled glass give the fitting the look of an old ship's lantern, which explains the series name. The light is intended for a terrace, a gazebo and other covered spots outside the house.
