The small Lighthouse is a Feiss (Generation Lighting) wall lantern with a textured black aluminium body and a cylindrical shade of clear seeded glass, full of small air bubbles. A cage of vertical bars and a horizontal ring surrounds the glass, and a stepped cap closes the top, a shape that recalls the lighthouse the range is named after. The fitting is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Size and mounting
The lantern is 29.2 cm tall and 11.7 cm in diameter, and it projects 15.9 cm from the wall. At that width it fits a slim strip of wall by a door; compare the width with the space between the frame and a window or downpipe on your own facade. The Lighthouse range also includes a medium version, a hanging lantern and a flush ceiling light in the same finish.
The fitting weighs 1.13 kg and mounts on a flat wall with a rectangular back plate; for the corner of a building the maker offers a separately sold corner bracket, C-BKT2-BLACK. It is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Bulb
Inside there is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W; the bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible through the shade, and a decorative filament bulb works well here. The bubbles in the glass diffuse the light slightly. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs where the circuit has a dimmer.
Outdoors
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can hang by an entrance, on a balcony or on a facade without a canopy. Aluminium does not rust the way steel does, which matters on a fitting left out in the rain, and the textured paint is matt and slightly rough to the touch, so it does not shine in the sun.
