Mathus Medium Outdoor Wall Lantern - 1 Light Source - Black Elstead

Mathus is a Kichler wall lantern with a simple, rectangular body: the glass cage tapers slightly towards the bottom and is capped by a hipped roof with a pronounced overhang. The aluminium has a black finish with a fine sand texture, and the clear glass panes are thicker than usual, with bevelled edges.

Medium size

The lantern is 45.7 cm high and 20.3 cm wide, and projects 23.5 cm from the wall; it weighs 4.3 kg. Compare the almost 46 cm height with the door or window it will hang beside — the smaller Mathus is 33 cm.

The manufacturer specifies it for exterior use, and IP44 protects it from splashing water on every side. It is a Class I fitting and needs an earth connection.

Bulb

Inside, under the roof, is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W — the bulb is not included. The bulb is clearly visible through the clear panes, and the bevels along the glass edges catch its light. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs where the circuit has a dimmer.

Clean geometry, thick glass and a matt, textured black add up to a classic lantern without ornament, suited to a plain façade.
