A disc on a post — all the light goes downwards

BORG is a bollard 85 cm tall, built from a slim column topped with a flat disc 20 cm across. The shape is function rather than decoration: the disc conceals the source completely from above and from the sides, so the entire output is directed downwards onto the paving around the post. In practice that means walking the path you never look into a bright point — you see lit paving and a dark post. It is also the arrangement that limits light emitted towards the sky.

1396 lumens at 4000 K — light to navigate by, not to flood with

The built-in LED module draws 16 W; the LED itself produces 2241 lm and 1396 lm leave the fitting at a neutral 4000 K. The gap between those figures is the price of the shielding that removes glare; luminaire efficiency is 87.3 lm/W. At 85 cm and with the light thrown purely downwards, one bollard lights a circle roughly 3 m across, so along a path they are set at 3–4 m intervals. Neutral 4000 K renders paving and planting after dark better than warm light does, and at CRI 80 it does not read as clinical.

IP65 and IK08 — the ratings that decide how long it lasts in a garden

IP65 means dust-tight and protected against jets of water — the bollard takes heavy rain, pressure-washing of the paving, and the sweep of an irrigation system. IK08 matters just as much: impact resistance to 5 J, a figure most garden fittings do not quote and one that counts directly for a post standing by a driveway or beside a mown lawn. The operating range runs from −20 °C to +45 °C.

Aluminium and a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty

The body is powder-coated cast aluminium in graphite RAL 7016, the cover satin PMMA, the seal silicone. Norlys backs the coating with a 25-year anti-corrosion warranty — on a fitting that stands in the ground and spends half the year under snow or catching salt off a drive, that counts for more than how it looks on installation day. The fitting itself carries a 5-year warranty.

Installation: the foundation is chosen separately

The bollard does not include an anchoring part — the manufacturer offers three separate accessories: an adapter for a concrete foundation (index 201), a ground anchor (202) and a concreting anchor (203). Which one depends on the ground: ground anchor for lawn and undisturbed soil, concreting anchor where a footing is poured. The terminals take up to 3 × 4 mm² and allow the bollards to be looped through at the same cross-section — the standard way to run a line along a path. Round cable, 8–12.5 mm diameter. Protection class I: an earth conductor is required. The fitting is dimmable.
